Built over the course of three years, between 1866 and 1869, Terrace Hill is a breathtaking Second Empire structure; its prominent feature is a 90-foot-high tower. Uniquely still in use as a home, the third floor of the mansion serves as the state governor's residence and other rooms within the building are used as offices and guest rooms. Guests can tour a number of the rooms preserved as historic reminders, like the drawing room and the music room, which are filled with antique items and furnishings. The home is a few miles east of the Iowa State Capitol, just north of Water Works Park.
Open Mar - Dec: Tue. - Sat. 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.; tours run once an hour.
Adults $5; Children (6-12) $2.
