Constructed over the course of five years, between 1924 and 1928, the Salisbury House was modeled after the King's House located in Salisbury, England. The 42-room mansion incorporates architectural styles including 16th century Tudor and 12th century Gothic; inside the home, various wall panelings and other items, like the main staircase, are pulled directly from historic structures that once stood in England. Visitors to the mansion can tour the lovely grounds and learn about the history of the building, see some of the most important items contained within the home and learn about the builder's life. The home is located in west Des Moines, just a few miles from the historic Terrace Hill house.
Tours run Mar - Dec: Tue. - Fri. and Sun. 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.; Closed Jan - Feb.
Adults $7; Seniors (65+) $6; Children (6-12) $3.
