Opened in 1919 by the Iowa Press and Author's Club, the Des Moines Playhouse has been operating continuously for nearly 85 years, making it the sixth oldest playhouse in the United States. Today, the Playhouse is the second largest community theatre in the nation, and continues to work with volunteers from the community to produce high quality dramatic performances. The theatre is located just east of the Waveland Golf Course, near the Glendale Cemetery.
